How can I get a passport urgently?
For people in the UK who need a passport quickly, for example to renew, replace or get a child passport.
Applies to: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland Last checked against official sources: 6 October 2026
Apply online and book a passport office appointment:
- 1 day premium (adult renewals only): collect 4 hours after your appointment; £239.50.
- 1 week fast track: delivered a week after your appointment; £192 adult, £156.50 child.
You can't use these for a first adult passport. If you've already applied, don't pay again; it won't speed things up.

Things to watch out for
- Already applied? If you have already applied and your passport has not arrived, do not pay for an urgent passport. It will not come any faster, and you will be charged a £34.50 admin fee for each extra application.
- Do not book travel until you have a valid passport. Your new passport will have a different number from your old one.
- Abroad? You cannot use these services. You may be able to get an emergency travel document instead.
- Emergencies: if you need to travel urgently for medical treatment, because someone is seriously ill or has died, or for government business, call the Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm; weekends and bank holidays, 9am to 5:30pm).
If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland
