How much does a UK passport cost?

For anyone in the UK applying for or renewing a British passport.

A standard adult passport costs £102 if you apply online in the UK, or £115.50 with a paper form.

  • A child passport (under 16) costs £66.50 online or £80 by paper form.
  • A 54-page frequent traveller passport costs £116 online for an adult, or £80.50 for a child.
  • The 1 week Fast Track service costs £192 for an adult and £156.50 for a child.
  • The 1 day Premium service costs £239.50 and is only for renewing an adult passport.
  • It is free if you were born on or before 2 September 1929.

These are the fees HM Passport Office charges if you apply from the UK. An adult is anyone aged 16 or over.

Urgent passport fees

If you need a passport quickly, you pay a higher fee instead of the normal one.

  • 1 week Fast Track: for renewals, changing your details, replacing a lost, stolen or damaged passport, or a child passport. The earliest appointment is the day after you apply. Your passport is sent by courier 1 week after your appointment.
  • 1 day Premium: only for renewing an adult passport. The earliest appointment is 2 days after you apply. You collect the passport from the office, 4 hours after your appointment.

You can book an urgent appointment up to 3 weeks ahead. You need your old passport (if you have one), a digital photo and a debit or credit card.

Worked examples

A family of four renewing online. Two adults at £102 and two children at £66.50 cost £337 in total. The same family using paper forms would pay £391, so applying online saves £54.

An adult who needs a passport this week. Fast Track costs £192, which is £90 more than a normal online renewal. The 1 day Premium service costs £239.50, which is £137.50 more.

Extra costs to know about

  • Secure delivery: £5 extra to have your supporting documents sent back by secure delivery.
  • Post Office Check and Send: you can pay extra to apply through the Post Office's Check and Send service.
  • Applying from abroad: different fees apply if you apply from outside the UK.
  • No refunds: you cannot get your money back if you cancel, or if you are not entitled to a passport.

How to pay

Online and paper applications take debit or credit cards. Paper forms also take cheques or postal orders. At the Post Office you can pay by card, postal order or cash.

If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland

Passports are run by HM Passport Office for the whole UK, so the fees are the same wherever you live.
