A family with two children getting Child Benefit: £27.05 + £17.90 = £44.95 a week, about £2,337 a year.

A single person aged 30 on Universal Credit with no other income: £424.90 a month, or £5,098.80 a year, before any housing or other elements.

What changes the amount you get

  • Means-tested benefits, like Universal Credit and Pension Credit, go down if you have other income or savings over the limits. The Universal Credit upper savings limit is £16,000.
  • PIP, Attendance Allowance and Child Benefit are paid at set rates. Which rate you get depends on your needs or your children.
  • The benefit cap can limit the total some working-age households get.

If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland

  • Scotland: Adult Disability Payment and Pension Age Disability Payment pay the same weekly rates as PIP and Attendance Allowance.
  • Wales: the rates above apply.
  • Northern Ireland: some benefits, such as PIP and Pension Credit, are run separately. Check nidirect for local details.
